Sony eBook Reader to support EPUB Format

Sony announced that its Reader Digital Book will be the first eBook reading device to support the EPUB format on 24 Jul 2008, the International Digital Publishing Forum’s XML-based standard format for reflow able digital books and publications. Starting next month, new Readers model Sony PRS-505, will be able to access and accept secure and non-secure ebooks in the EPUB format. EPUB has gained acceptance among major trade book publishers, many of whom have committed to begin publishing forthcoming ebooks in the format. Current Sony PRSS-505 owners can already upgrade their eBook to support the new format on the Sony support site starting on today (at the time of writing, the update was not available yet). Sanyo Xacti DMX-HD800 unveiled Sanyo announced the Xacti DMX-HD800 HD camcorder. The Sanyo Xacti HD800 features 8MP resolution and records video with a maxium of 720p HD resolution. Other features of the Xacti HD800 include face detection (12 faces), anti-shake, Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 bundled, SDHC up to 32GB, up to ISO1800 sensitivity and optional AV kit to connect via HDMI to TVs. Impulse has produced the NPX-9000 mini-notebook, called the “World’s Cheapest Laptop”on july 29 2008.. Priced at $130 with a 50 unit minimum purchase, the NPX-9000 features a 7-inch display, a 400 MHz MIPS CPU, 128MB of SDRAM, 1GB of Flash Memory based storage, and Linux operating system. The World’s Cheapest Laptop also sports an SD Card Slot, VGA output, and 3 USB ports, while the external 802.11g WiFi dongle is optional

New Spy Camera Sunglasses with MP3 Player These new sunglasses take the Oakley Thump MP3 glasses to the next level by integrating a hidden photo camera. The USB Spy Camera Sunglasses has a built-in 2GB flash memory which can store more than 15,000 photos. The integrated 1.3MP camera takes pictures in 1280x1024px resolution. These spy sunglasses have a built-in rechargeable Li-ion Battery that allows you to enjoy up to 6 hours of Music or 2 hours taking 10 photos per min. To actually take a photo the sunglasses come with a wireless remote control that you can carry in your pocket. These Spy sunglasses actually could be quite interesting for paparazzies. You could sit in the Ivy and have a drink or two and just wait until Paris Hilton takes a seat on the next table. In the story gallery are sample photos taken with the spy sunglasses that are not too bad. Brando sells the high-tech glasses for $165. Pentax Optio E60 Budget Camera Introduced

Pentax has introduced a new digital camera with lots of megapixels at a low price. The Pentax Optio E60 has 10.1-megapixels and a 3x optical zoom lens. The E60 lens has a wide angle of view of 32mm to 96mm in 35mm format. Other features of the camera include Auto Picture, Face Recognition, High Sensitivity Digital Shake Reduction, and a Green mode that sets exposure, sensitivity and other features with the touch of one button. Power for the camera comes from AA batteries and the E60 has a built-in Image Recovery function to retrieve images deleted by accident. Up to 16 images can be taken on 2 seconds in burst mode. The cameras LCD is 2.4-inches wide and images are stored to 6.3MB of internal memory with support for SD/SDHC memory cards as well. The E60 will be available in October for less than $140.

Zen Mozaic unveiled by Creative

Creative introduced the Creative ZEN Mozaic portable media player for music, photos, and video on 23 Jul 2008. Inspired by the artistic expressions of mosaic art, the Creative ZEN Mozaic is available in vivid pink, chic black, or cool silver colors. The Creative ZEN Mozaic comes complete with a built-in speaker, vibrant 1.8-inch LCD color screen, FM radio, and voice recorder. Weighing just 43g and measuring 79.5mm x 40mm x 12.8mm, the compact Creative ZEN Mozaic provides up to 32 hours of audio playback with a single charge of the battery. Also available at a later date are 8GB and 16GB models. The Creative Zen Mozaic is priced at S$99.00 (~$72) for a 2GB model (for up to 1,000 songs) and S$129.00 (~$94) for a 4GB model (for up to 2,000 songs).
